Our world class 50 meter pool and therapy pool are internationally known for the
opportunity they provide for swim teams to train at 7245 feet
above sea level. Swimmers have been coming to train at high altitude at the Larry R.
Walkup Aquatic Center since its inception. Among the teams that have used the
facility are the Aqlub Swim Team (Japan), Leige Natacion (Belgium), Metropolitan
State University (Denver, CO) , Wildkit Aquatics (Chicago, IL); and the Peak Performance
Training Camp (Florida). Training space is also provided to two private swim teams
as well as our Los Alamos High School swim and diving teams. In an effort to provide
more recreational opportunities within the competitive pool format, we offer an inflatable
island and an inflatable jumper during "Wacky Wednesdays" and "Freaky
Friday". This activity is the recipient of the 2004 NMRPA Innovative Award. View our Slide Show
